Swim and Dive Recap: Wesleyan and Early Bird Dive Invite

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity swim and dive teams were in action over the weekend, competing in a meet against Galloway and Wesleyan on Friday, Nov. 9 before closing out the weekend at the Early Bird Dive Invite at Marist on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Below are highlights from each day.

1) Galloway and Wesleyan - at Wesleyan - Friday, Nov. 9

- Mustang Girls 200 Medley Relay of Caroline Betz (Back), Rachel Turner (Breast), Daniela Jimenez (Fly), and Sarah Eaves (Free)
finished in second place out of eight entries.

-Mustang Varsity Girls 200 IM swimmers: Caroline Clemons took five seconds of her PR and placed second. Caroline Betz takes two seconds off her PR for third place.

-First year diver, Rachel Turner, scores 5’s and 6’s.

-Mustang Girls 200 Free Relay of Landry Kruep, Jordan Helton, Rachel Turner, and Sarah Eaves came within 1.35 seconds of a State Cut (closest the girls have ever come) and took second place.

2) Early Bird Invite (Dive Only) - at Marist - Saturday, Nov. 10

-Grace Griswold at Marist for Early Bird State Diving Quailifier nailed a Reverse Dive Pike with average scores of 7 and a high of 8.5.

-Grace Griswold surpassed her State Qualifying performance. With 300 points required to qualify, she earned 375.25. In so doing, Grace also took third place overall competing in D1 through D5 competition.


The Mustangs are back in the water at the Lakeside Dive and Swim Invitational on Nov. 30-Dec. 1.

The Dive competition is Friday, Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. while the Swim competition is Saturday, Dec. 1 at 9 a.m. at Chamblee Charter.
