Varsity Tennis Splits Home Match with Riverwood Raiders

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Tennis teams were in action on Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 7, taking on the Riverwood Raiders in non-region play at Sandy Springs Tennis Center.

The Varsity Girls took down the Raiders 3-2 while the Varsity Boys fell 2-3.

The Varsity Girls won all three singles lines with Sofia Tur (1S, 8-2), Daniela O'Leary (2S, 8-2), and Reagan Wissman (3S, 8-1) all winning with ease.

Annabel France and Sadie Hutchens came up short 2-8 in no. 1 doubles. Hunter Reese Giardino and Brooke Nazarian came close in the no. 2 doubles match, falling 5-8.

The Varsity Boys fell 2-3 in some hard-fought matches. Liam O'Leary survived a no. 1 singles, prevailing 8-6. Cadyn Dawson (2S) and Christopher Collins (3S) both had tough days on the court, losing 1-8 and 2-8 respectively.

Kiefer Hurtado and Sam Hodges were victorious at no. 1 doubles, winning 8-4.

Teammates Jac Crouch and Benjamin Reagin came up short 2-8 at no. 2 doubles as well.

Both varsity squads return to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 8 hosting the Weber School.

First serve against the Rams is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Sandy Springs Tennis Center.
