ATLANTA - For the first time in program history, the Mount Vernon Varsity Girls and Boys Tennis teams are going to the Final 4!
The Varsity Girls accomplished that feat with a 4-1 victory over Bacon County on Monday, May 1 at Dunwoody Country Club.
The Varsity Boys followed that performance with a 4-0 win of their own at Bacon County on Tuesday, May 2 on the road.
In the Varsity Girls match, Sofia Tur (no. 1 singles) had a breeze of a match, winning 6-0, 6-0 while teammate Daniela O'Leary (no. 2 singles) finished her opponent off 6-1, 6-2.
Kate Duncan & Taylor Gravely brought home the third and deciding point at no. 2 doubles with a 6-2, 6-0 win.
Annabel France and Sadie Hutchens (no. 2 doubles) also secured a win, 7-5, 6-4.
In the boys match, Kiefer Hurtado and Nico Tur finished first, defeating their no. 1 doubles opponents off the court 6-0, 6-0.
Jac Crouch and Sam Hodges finished next with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 win at no. 2 doubles followed by a Liam O'Leay victory at no. 1 singles to clinch the match (6-3, 6-0).
Cadyn Dawson also picked up a win at no. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
The Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys will now host the Final Four matches at Dunwoody Country Club.
The Varsity Girls will play Mt. Pisgah while the Varsity Boys will take on Whitefield in a doubleheader on Thursday, May 4 at Dunwoody Country Club.
The Varsity Girls match is scheduled for 11 a.m. with the Varsity Boys to follow at 2 p.m.
