ROME, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Girls and Boys Cross Country teams qualified for the GHSA State Meet on Saturday, Nov. 2. with a strong finish at the 1A-3A Sectionals, hosted by The Darlington School.
In the Varsity Girls race, the Mustangs placed third overall with 99 points.
Morgan Huggins crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 20:27.
Alexis Kendall was 12th at 22:18 while teammate Lydia Nagy was 23rd at 23:13.
In the Varsity Boys race, the Mustangs came in fifth with a team score of 89.
Haris Flynn was first at 16:28, besting the next-best runner by 15 seconds.
Henry Miller was finished in 17th place with a time of 18:37 followed by teammate Will Vansant in 22nd at 18:51.
Jake Pierce and Matthew Pierce posted 24th and 25th, respectively.

MV will race next at the GHSA State Meet on Friday, Nov. 8 at Carrollton High School.
The Varsity Boys race is scheduled for 9 a.m. followed by the Varsity Girls at 9:45 a.m.
