ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball team picked up its sixth win in as many tries on Tuesday night, Dec. 2, defeating the B.E.S.T. Academy Eagles 74-57 at the Upper Campus Gymnasium.
The winning streak for MV is the best start to a season in the programs' GHSA era.
The Mustangs opened the game firing on all cylinders offensively, scoring 27 points in the first quarter while limiting the Eagles to 11.
MV won the second quarter 15-12 to lead 42-23 at halftime.
Mount Vernon added 18 points in the third quarter and 12 more in the final period to take the win.
Four players finished in double-figures scoring for the Mustangs: Darrell Dickens (17), Noah Brady (11), Gabe Alterman (10) and Quint McGrath (10).
The Mustangs also capitalized from downtown, making nine 3-pointers throughout the game.
Alterman led the team in assists with eight while Brady pulled down eight rebounds.
Chase Daniels and Dickens each had three steals as well.
Xion Evans led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points.
Mount Vernon (6-0, 1-0 Reg. 5-1A) returns to action on Friday, Dec. 5 traveling to Atlanta International School for another region contest.
Tip-off against the Eagles is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
