ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity baseball team came from behind to keep its winning streak alive on Thursday afternoon, March 21, knocking off the Landmark Christian War Eagles 3-2 in nine innings at the Glenn Campus Baseball Field.

After Tres Gonzalez reached third on an infield error by the War Eagles in the bottom of the ninth, Nate Anderson singled to right field to end the game and secure Mount Vernon's eleventh straight victory.

Landmark led for the majority of the contest, breaking the 0-0 barrier in the top of the third inning by plating two runs.

Aaron Northcutt scored the games first run on a Jack Richards groundout to shortstop for a 1-0 War Eagle lead.

Two batters later, JJ Fragoso came around to score on a Mustang infield error for a 2-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the third, the Mustangs got one run back on a double steal and infield error by the War Eagles that allowed Gonzalez to score for a 2-1 contest.

After three scoreless innings, the Mustangs tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

With the bases loaded, one out and a full count on Alex VanLandingham, the junior lifted a fly ball to center field to bring home Alex Mette on the sacrifice fly.

Both squads battled through a scoreless eighth inning until Anderson's heroics in the ninth.

Alex Thomas picked up the win in relief for the Mustangs, tossing 1 2/3 innings to back up a superb performance from Jack Mullen.

The righty threw 7 1/3 innings, allowing three hits, two runs (both unearned), while striking out nine batters.

Joshua Tidwell was tagged with the loss for Landmark.
