LOCUST GROVE, Ga. - The Mount Vernon varsity football team is head back to the postseason for a fourth consecutive season.
The Mustangs captured a crucial regular season ending victory over the Strong Rock Patriots 56-9 on Friday night, Nov. 8, at Patriot Stadium.
Mount Vernon struck early and often, posting three touchdowns in the first quarter.
Skylar Stefaniak picked up a pair of touchdowns on two-yard and five-yard runs while Andrew Douglas rushed in a seven-yard score.
After allowing a field goal to the Patriots to start the second quarter, Douglas broke free from the 25-yard line and rushed down the field 75 yards for another score.
Douglas added another touchdown after a Jonthan Hammond goal-line score for a 42-3 lead late in the second period.
After a fumble recovery, Stefaniak scored his third touchdown of the contest on a 29-yard rush.
Strong Rock scored with 4:12 to play in the half to make it a 49-9 contest by halftime.
With a running clock second half, the Mustangs and Patriots traded possessions before the game ended in a 56-9 Mustang victory.
Mount Vernon (5-5, 3-5 Reg. 5-1A) will now await word from the GHSA on their playoff opponent.
