Mustangs Fall to Hebron Christian 13-7 in First Round of GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament

DACULA, Ga. - The 2019 season came to a close for the Mount Vernon varsity football team on Friday night, Nov. 15, falling to the Hebron Christian Lions 13-7 in the first round of the GHSA Class-A Private State Tournament at Burlingame Field at Lions Stadium.

Both squads battled early and often, trading possessions the entire first half en route to a 0-0 score at halftime.

Following intermission, the Mustangs struck first three minutes into the third quarter when Luke Barnes found Skylar Stefaniak for a 65-yard touchdown.

Five minutes later, the Lions got on the board to tie the game 7-7.

The score would remain deadlocked heading into the final period.

After trading possessions, Hebron Christian struck again with 7:58 to play but missed the extra point to lead 13-7.

Mount Vernon could not capitalize the remainder of the game, turning the ball over with less than a minute to play.

Mount Vernon has now played in four consecutive GHSA Class-A Private postseasons and will look to continue that trend for 2020 and beyond.
