ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon varsity baseball team brought the lumber in a big way on Tuesday afternoon, knocking off the Galloway Scots 23-7 in five innings on the road to snap a five game losing streak as well picking up their first Region 5-1A victory.
Austin Taylor drove in four runs on two hits to lead the Mustangs. Taylor drove in runs on a home run and a double in the fifth inning.
Mount Vernon's offense was on point in the first inning. Will Allison tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, later scoring one run.
The Mustangs tallied ten runs in the fifth inning.
Taylor, Daniel O'Keefe, Blake Kytle, Cole Forrest, Avery Anderson, and Taylor all contributed in the big inning with RBI's.
Dylan Holbrook earned the win for Mount Vernon, tossing two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on two hits and striking out five batters.
Hampton Hudson threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen as well.
The Mustangs Varsity racked up 15 hits on the day.
Forrest, Dawson Stevens, Taylor, Jack Sims, and Hudson all had multiple hits.
Forrest led the team with three hits in four at bats.
Mount Vernon is back on the diamond on Wednesday, April 7, hosting Galloway in another Region 5-1A showdown.
First pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Upper Campus Baseball Field.
