DACULA, Ga - The Mount Vernon varsity baseball team came away with an 8-2 region victory on Thursday afternoon, April 15, defeating the Hebron Christian Lions 8-2 at the Cole Baseball Complex.
In the first inning, the Mustangs got the offense started on a RBI single by Austin Taylor.
The Mount Vernon bats came alive in a big way in the middle of the game, scoring five runs in the fourth inning with singles by Cole Forrest, Dawson Stevens, Jack Sims, and Taylor.
Sims led the Mustangs to victory on the mound, surrendering two runs on five hits over six innings, and striking out six batters.
Forrest threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen as well.
The Mustangs totaled nine hits in the game. Forrest, Stevens, and Taylor all managed multiple hits for Mount Vernon.
Forrest went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Mustangs in hits.
Mount Vernon returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 20, hosting the Wesleyan Wolves in another Region 5-1A game.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Mount Vernon's Upper Campus Baseball Field.
