ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball team picked up it first home victory of the new season on Tuesday night, Nov. 15, defeating the B.E.S.T. Academy Eagles 95-18 at the Upper Campus Gym.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 24-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and secured a 23-12 run in the second period to lead 47-12 at halftime.
Mount Vernon won the second half 48-6 to cruise to the win.
Five players Dennis Scott racked up a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Teammate Xavier Shegog also totaled a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards.
Three other Mustangs posted double figures in scoring: Kenneth Southall (18), Pace Bottoms (14) and Sha'Yah Goba (13).
Mount Vernon pumped in 12 3-pointers in the contest and finished 14-of-20 from the free throw line.
Emery Jones led the Eagles in scoring with six points.
The Mustangs are back in action on Thursday, Nov. 17, hosting Hope Christian Academy in a non-region contest.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Mount Vernon's Upper Campus Gymnasium.
