ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball team returned to the court to tip-off the new year over the weekend, hosting the Loganville Christian Lions on Friday night, Jan. 6 before taking on Parkview on Saturday, Jan. 7 on the road.
The Mustangs picked up the win over Loganville Christian 69-31.
Mount Vernon jumped out to a 21-7 at the end of the first quarter and secured a 13-5 run in the second period to lead 34-12 at halftime.
The Mustangs outscored the Lions 15-10 in the third quarter to go ahead 49-22 to put the game away for good.
For players finished in double figures scoring for the Mustangs: Keith Williams (13), Trey Scott (12), Kenneth Southall (12) and Shayah Goba (10).
On Saturday, the Mustangs fell to Parkview 68-61 at Grayson High School.
Xavier Shegog paced the Mustangs in scoring with 18 points and nine rebounds while teammate Williams had 12 points and eight boards.
Mount Vernon (10-6) is back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 10 hosting region rival Mount Pisgah.
Tip-off against the Patriots is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Campus Gym.
