ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Girls and Boys soccer teams were on the pitch on Monday afternoon, March 27, taking on the Weber School Rams in Region 6-1A DI play at Ron Hill Field on Senior Night.
Both matches proved no trouble for the Mustangs with the Varsity Girls winning 10-0 and the Varsity Boys following with an 8-1 victory.
In the girls match, the Mustangs jumped out to an 8-0 lead by halftime.
Taylor Keller and Karoline Lundstrom each netted a hat trick in the first half.
Elizabeth Hall also got in on the scoring barrage with two goals scored in the first period.
Keller assisted two goals in the first half while teammates Ruby Turner and Lundstrom had one assist.
Playing in a shortened second period, the Mustangs brought the mercy rule into effect with goals from Rachel Reeve and Lundstrom.
Mount Vernon dominated the possessions throughout the match, outshooting Weber 29-0 on the day.
In the boys match, the Mustangs led 7-0 by halftime.
Jessee Sherrill scored the first two goals of the game for Mount Vernon.
Jamal Arif pushed in a goal on a breakaway with 17:06 to play in the first period to give Mount Vernon a 3-0 edge.
Sherrill struck again to secure his hat trick with 15:27 to play in the first half to make it 4-0 Mustangs.
Henry Walmsley, George Walmsley and Moritz Martin scored the final three goals of the half for Mount Vernon.
In the second half, Arif intercepted a goal kick and scored to make it 8-0.
Weber scored in the final 10 minutes of the match for their only goal of the contest.
Aidan Berry led the team with three assists on the day while teammate George Walmsley finished with one.
Mount Vernon controlled the pace in the match, outshooting Weber 27-5.
Harrison Estenson finished with two saves in goal for Mount Vernon as well.
The Varsity Girls (8-2, 6-1 Reg. 6-1A DI) are back on the pitch on Thursday, March 30, traveling to Mt. Bethel for a region match with the Eagles at 4 p.m.
The Varsity Boys (6-5, 4-3 Reg. 6-1A DI) return to play on Thursday, March 30, taking on Tallulah Falls on the road at 6 p.m.
Both squads close out the regular season with a region match at Mount Pisgah on Saturday, April 1.
