ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team earned its fourth straight win on Tuesday afternoon, April 4, by defeating the South Cobb Eagles 10-0 in five innings at Mustang Park.
The Mustangs jumped out to 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Brooks Champney doubled to score Dylan Holbrook followed by an Alec Fahlbusch double that plated Dawson Stevens and Champney.
In the bottom go the second inning, Mount Vernon added four more runs to go ahead 7-0.
Nate Thomas doubled home Bennett Bogdanchik and Avery Anderson and later came around to score on a throwing error by the Eagles.
Mount Vernon tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, the first on a Bogdanchik groundout that score Ethan Pajot.
Two batters later, Hampton Hudson singled home Rigby Anderson and Daniel O'Keefe for a 10-0 Mustang advantage.
Nate Shumway picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs, tossing four innings, allowing one hit and striking out two batters en route to his third win of the season.
O'Keefe pitch a perfect inning of relief with no hits allowed and two strikeouts.
The Mustangs (9-5) are back in action on Wednesday, April 5, traveling to Woodland High School for a non-region contest.
First pitch against the Wolfpack is scheduled 4 p.m. in Stockbridge, Ga.
