JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Baseball team completed its regular season region series sweep of Mt. Pisgah, defeating the Patriots 6-2 on Friday afternoon, April 5, at the Patriot Athletic Campus.
After trailing 1-0 after the first four innings, MV tied the game in the top of the fifth inning when Harris Meriwether singled to left field to plate Harrison Mills.
MV took the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning, scoring five runs.
Hampton Hudson singled home Ethan Pajot to make it to 2-1 Mount Vernon.
Four batters later and with the bases loaded, Mills reached on a single to right field that got past the Patriot outfield defense allowing Rigby Anderson, Bennett Bogdanchik, Hampton Hudson and Mills to score for a 6-1 lead.
The Patriots threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning, but could only score one run.
Jack Riddle picked up the win on the mound for MV, allowing one run in four innings with five strikeouts and three walks.
Maddox Chasman threw two innings of relief while Hudson Forrest hurled one.
The Mustangs are back in action on Friday, April 12, traveling to St. Francis for a region contest against the Knights.
First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
