ALPHARETTA, Ga. - The Mount Vernon Varsity Football team returned to region play in a big way on Friday night, Oct. 25, defeating the King's Ridge Christian School Tigers 38-21 at Archer Field.
Both squads battled to a 14-14 tie at the end of the first quarter.
After a 31-yard field goal by Nick Sroka in the second period, MV led at halftime 17-14.
Each team traded a touchdown in the third quarter, giving the Mustangs a 24-21 advantage going into the final 12 minutes of play.
The Mustangs finished the game on a 14-0 run to seal the win.
Senior Bristan DeRocher led the team in rushing with 71 yards and was 11-for-14 passing for 109 yards.
Ethan Siggers paced MV in receiving with 46 yards.
MV's defense caused one fumble and one interception by the Tigers as well.
Mount Vernon (5-3) closes out the regular season on Friday, Nov. 1 hosting Landmark Christian in the Region 5-1A crossover.
Kickoff against the War Eagles is scheduled 3:45 p.m. at Ron Hill Field.
