ATLANTA - The Mount Vernon Varsity Boys Basketball team began 2025 with a bang on Tuesday night, Jan. 8, defeating the Wesleyan School Wolves 59-37 at the Upper Campus Gymnasium.
MV trailed 12-11 after the first quarter but used a 16-7 spurt in the second period to go ahead 27-19 at halftime.
MV outscored the Wolves 32-18 in the second half, including an impressive 15-2 run in the fourth quarter.
Quint McGrath led the Mustangs in scoring with 15 points while also pulling down nine rebounds.
Darrell Dickens finished with 12 points, four boards, and three steals with teammate Gabe Alterman scoring 11 points to go with a team-high seven assists.
Tripp Jackson led the squad in rebounding with 11.
MV's defense was active throughout the duration of the game, forcing the Wolves into 19 turnovers.
The Mustangs turned those miscues into 20 points.
Mount Vernon shot well from the free throw line with a mark of 72.2 percent.
Mount Vernon (7-8, 3-2 Reg. 5-1A) returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 9 traveling to the Walker School for a key region contest.
Tip-off against the Wolverines is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Coles Athletic Center.
The game was moved up a day due to the potential for inclement weather on Friday, Jan. 10.
